My Web3 Journey

I was introduced to the NFT towards the end of 2020. I was into the Cardano blockchain at the time and heard that people were working on minting NFTs to the chain. There wasnt much information about it at the time as it was early so to stay on top of news I created the r/CardanoNFTs subreddit, figuring that moderating that community, I’d be able to stay on top of things.

There I met the creator of the CardanoBits collection, a developer rancing to release one of the earliest collections. I was trying to mint some of my work so we had similar interests which led to a collaborative relationship, pushed us to learning the skills we needed to bring something to the space. By early 2021, CardanoBits was able to release his collection, the second ever released on the blockchain and I was able to mint my work, some of the earliest artwork on the chain. This relationship continued and culminated is us organizing the CollaBits project, a chain wide collaborative event supporting over 50 artists and projects, almost everyone at the time. This project allowed me to branch out, creating connections throughout the community.

Around this same time, I began working with the limited art marketplace Artano, serving as one of the 12 council member for its first two terms. There I attended weekly meetings to help develop the platform as well as curating the platform with artists entering the NFT space. I also had the honor of releasing work for several major events for the marketplace such as the opening marketplace collection, their first iNFT collection and testing out their auction functionality with the second auction on the site with my R.T.A. FOMOing piece.

By mid 2021, I was still very active in the community side of the space and began hosting a YouTube show on the Buffy Bot Publishing Network called “withfaces.” There, I had the pleasure of interviewing many different artists in the community, sharing their process, their artwork and their story. This show eventually merged with another on the network, creating cNFTnews, a weekly Cardano NFT News show that has continued to this day.

While continuing the community work, I was also releasing my own independent collections. I was lucky enough to find a community for my 3D art which allowed me to begin my story-based NFT collection titled “[2140],” a sci-fi 3D animated that following a lonely robot named R.O.D.R.160, in the year 2140, the year the last Bitcoin will be minted. This series has been off to a slow start as I peruse more consistent projects in the industry, but I’m not in a rush with it as it’s my main personal body of work and something I hope to continue long term.

Since then, I’ve continued to work with many projects in the space, working as a freelance artists for projects. Two notable ones are the Clay Mates metaverse project where I served as an environmental artist and the Jesus 2 project aiding with 3D assets and animations.

Its an honor to grow with it from such an early stage. I believe this technology is truly beneficial to artists and I’m excited to see it continue to blossom over time.

What is an NFT?

An NFT, or a Non-Fungible Token, is a unique digital asset that represents ownership of a piece of content, such as an image, video, audio file, or any other type of digital media. The term “non-fungible” means that each NFT is unique and can only have a single owner.

Think of an NFT like a digital collectible card. Just like how a physical trading card has a unique design, serial number, and attributes, an NFT has a unique set of information and characteristics that make it one-of-a-kind. In the world of NFTs, you own the original, one-of-a-kind digital asset and can sell, trade, or display it as you see fit.
